Average down calculator

Enter your current average and quantity, add as many planned buys as you like, and see the new average, total shares and extra cash instantly. No calculate button.

Target average, reversed

Type the average you want. AvgNote tells you exactly how many shares to buy at a given price, or that the target can't be reached at that price.

Shares or amount

Plan buys by quantity or by money ("buy $500 worth"). Amounts turn into fractional shares automatically.

A ledger that remembers

Keep your stocks, ETFs and coins with every buy and sell, including date and fee. Nothing disappears when you close the app.

Partial sells done right

Selling part of a position keeps your average price and records realized profit, the way brokers calculate it.

Profit at your price

Type the current price yourself to see unrealized profit and return %. No live quotes, no account.

Four more calculators

Return %, target and stop price, break-even price after fees and taxes, and compound growth of monthly investing.

Built for real numbers

Up to 8 decimals for crypto, automatic thousands separators, red-up or green-up colors, a home screen widget, light and dark themes.

FAQ

How do I calculate my average price after averaging down?
New average = (current average × current shares + sum of each new price × new shares) ÷ total shares. AvgNote does this as you type, for as many buys as you add.
How many shares do I need to buy to reach a target average?
Shares needed = current shares × (current average − target) ÷ (target − buy price). The target must be between the buy price and your current average. AvgNote's target mode calculates it and tells you when it's impossible.
Does selling part of my shares change my average price?
Not with the average cost method used by most brokers. The average stays the same; the sale creates realized profit or loss. AvgNote's ledger handles partial sells this way.
My old calculator erased everything when I closed it. Does this save?
Yes. Stocks and trades are saved on your phone and stay after you close the app or rotate the screen.
Can I include commissions?
Yes. Each trade has an optional fee, included in your cost basis and realized profit. The break-even calculator also takes fees and taxes as a %.
Does it work for crypto and fractional shares?
Yes. Prices and quantities accept up to 8 decimal places.
Do I need to connect my brokerage?
No. There is no login and no brokerage link. You type the numbers; they stay on your device.
Is this investment advice?
No. AvgNote is a calculator and record-keeping tool. It does not recommend buying or selling anything.
