Fever log for the doctor: what to write down
Short answer: Doctors usually want to know when the fever started, the highest temperature, how it was measured, which medicines were given and when, and any other symptoms. A short timeline beats memory.
This is general information, not medical advice. Always follow the medicine label and your doctor or pharmacist, and contact a doctor if you are worried.
The essentials
- When the fever started
- Each reading: time, temperature, and where it was taken (armpit, ear, forehead, mouth, rectal)
- Each medicine: time and active ingredient, and the amount given as per the label
- How the temperature changed after each dose
- Other symptoms: eating, drinking, wet diapers, rash, cough, vomiting, sleep
Keep it readable
List entries in time order, one per line. Keep °C or °F consistent.
In Feverwise
Every reading and dose is saved with its time. Share a plain-text summary of the episode with your doctor or partner, and show the fever graph with doses marked.
