Water reminder goes off too often, even when I'm ahead
Short answer: Most water reminder apps use a fixed timer (every 30 or 60 minutes) that ignores what you already drank. Switch to a pace-based reminder: it compares your intake with where you should be by now and stays silent when you are ahead.
Why fixed-interval reminders fail
- You drink a big bottle at 10:00, and the app still buzzes at 10:30 and 11:00.
- After a few pointless alerts, you start swiping them away without reading, including the useful ones.
- Reminders at night or early morning if quiet hours are not set.
How a pace-based reminder works
Take your daily goal and your waking hours. At any time, your target so far is goal × (time awake so far ÷ total waking time). Example: 2,000 ml goal, awake 07:00–23:00. At 15:00 you are halfway through the day, so the target so far is 1,000 ml. If you already drank 1,200 ml, no reminder. If you drank 700 ml, you get one.
Fixes you can try in any app
- Set wake and sleep times so nothing rings at night.
- Lengthen the interval to 90–120 minutes.
- Log drinks right away, ideally from the notification itself.
In Gulply
"Only when behind" is the default reminder mode. Each notification has a "+250 ml" button, and logging a drink recalculates the next reminder so alerts never pile up. You can still pick a fixed interval, snooze, or turn reminders off.
