Hushlog Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-09-15
Hushlog ("the app") is a noise log and sound level meter provided by DDJ A1 ("we", "us"). It measures sound levels with your phone's microphone, automatically logs moments that exceed the daytime or nighttime threshold you set, and lets you review, tag, and export those records as a report. Hushlog is deliberately designed as a local-only app: it has no account system, no login, no server, and no cloud storage operated by us.
Microphone and audio
The app uses the microphone (the RECORD_AUDIO permission) only while a measurement session is running, which you start yourself or schedule in Settings. While measuring, a persistent notification is always shown so you know the microphone is in use, and you can stop it from that notification at any time.
- Sound levels (decibel values) are calculated on your device.
- If Record exceeded moments is turned on, only short, low-quality clips of the moments that exceeded your threshold are saved, so that you can listen back to them. You can turn this off in Settings, in which case no audio is saved at all — only decibel numbers.
- Audio and measurements are never uploaded to us or to any third party. The app is not intended for recording conversations; please use it in accordance with the laws of your country.
Data stored on your device
Measurement events (time, duration, decibel values), audio clips, tags, memos, thresholds, calibration offset, schedules, and app preferences are stored only on your device and are never transmitted to us. There is no sign-up, account, or login. Records older than the retention period you choose are deleted automatically, and deleting the app deletes all of this data from your device.
Android's standard app backup may include this data in your own Google account backup if you have device backup enabled; that backup is controlled by you and Google, not by us.
If you use PDF report, CSV, or Share, the file is delivered only to the destination you explicitly choose (for example a messaging or email app). The app requests no storage permission for this.
Information collected automatically
When you use the app, certain information may be collected automatically by third-party SDKs used for advertising. This may include:
- Your device's Internet Protocol (IP) address
- Your device's advertising identifier (Advertising ID)
- App usage events such as session time and screens viewed
- The mobile operating system and device model you use
This information is processed by the advertising provider described below and is not linked by us to your noise records or audio, which never leave your device.
Advertising
The app displays advertisements provided by Google AdMob, and the Advertising ID and the information above are shared with Google for that purpose. For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, and other regions where required, the app presents a consent form via Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) before personalized advertising data is used; if you decline, non-personalized ads are shown instead. You can reset or limit ad personalization at any time in your device settings (Settings → Google → Ads), and you can change your consent choice from the app's Settings screen ("Ad privacy settings").
For more information on how Google uses data when you use partners' apps, see https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Notifications
Reminders and measurement status are shown locally on your device using the Android notification system. No push notification service is used.
Measurement disclaimer
A smartphone microphone is not a calibrated sound level meter. Values shown in the app are reference information only and are not an official or legally certified measurement.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your rights
Because your records exist only on your device, you are in direct control of them: you can view or delete them in the app at any time, and uninstalling the app removes them completely. Depending on your region (e.g. GDPR in the EEA/UK, CCPA in California), you may also have rights regarding data processed by advertising SDKs; you can exercise ad-related choices through the consent form and your device's ad settings described above.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
