Kanaday Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-09-29
Kanaday ("the app") helps you learn the Japanese hiragana and katakana alphabets with a character chart, character cards with writing practice, daily quizzes and spaced review. It is provided by DDJ A1 ("we", "us"). Kanaday has no account system, no login and no server or cloud storage operated by us.
Data stored on your device
Your learning progress (which characters you have studied, quiz answers, review schedule and streak) and your app settings are kept only on your device. The app itself does not upload this information to us. Pronunciation uses your device's built-in text-to-speech engine; drawings on the writing practice canvas are not saved.
If you share a result card or the app from Settings, it is passed to the app you choose through Android's share sheet; what happens next is governed by that app. Uninstalling the app deletes the app's private data.
Permissions
- Notifications — for the optional daily study reminder. You can decline and grant it later in device settings.
- Vibration — for reminder alerts.
- Run at startup — so the daily reminder is re-scheduled after your phone restarts.
- Internet / network state — used by the advertising SDK described below.
Kanaday does not request location, camera, microphone, contacts, calendar, storage or phone permissions.
Information collected automatically by advertising
The app shows ads through Google AdMob. AdMob and its partners may collect and share with Google, as a third party, the following for advertising, analytics and fraud prevention:
- Device or other identifiers, such as the Advertising ID
- Approximate location derived from your IP address
- App interactions (for example ad impressions and clicks, session activity)
- Crash logs and diagnostics
For users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and other regions where required, the app shows a consent form through Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) before personalized ads are used; if you decline, non-personalized ads are shown. You can change your choice from the app's Settings ("Ad privacy settings") and reset or limit ad personalization in your device settings.

Children
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your choices
Uninstalling the app removes its data on your device. Because we hold no data about you on our side, there is nothing for us to delete; ad-related choices are available through the consent form and your device's ad settings.
