Darts checkout chart: the finishes to know from 170 down

Short answer: a checkout is the set of darts that takes your score to exactly zero, ending on a double. The highest checkout is 170 (T20 T20 Bull). Seven scores below 170 cannot be finished in three darts: 169, 168, 166, 165, 163, 162 and 159. For everything else, aim to leave a good double such as 40 (D20) or 32 (D16).

The big finishes (three darts)

Two-dart finishes

Why 40 and 32 are the doubles to leave

If you miss double 20 into the single 20, you are left on 20, which is double 10. If you miss double 16 into the single, you are left on 16 (double 8), then 8 (double 4), then 4 (double 2). An odd number such as 39 needs a single first.

Plan for the darts you have left

A route for three darts is not the route for two. On 100 with two darts, T20 D20 is the plan; with one dart left you cannot finish, so score to leave a two-dart finish such as 80 or 60 for the next turn.

Bogey numbers

169, 168, 166, 165, 163, 162 and 159 cannot be checked out in three darts. If you are left on one of these, score to leave a finish for the next turn rather than going for a treble you cannot use.

Learning the chart

Start with the doubles (40, 32, 36, 24, 20, 16) and the two-dart finishes from 61 to 100. The big three-dart finishes come later and are easier once those are automatic.

Ochepad shows a checkout route whenever you are on 170 or less and a finish is possible, and it takes into account how many darts you have left in the turn when you enter darts one by one. Your best checkout is saved in each player's stats.
