Peekless Privacy Policy

Peekless ("the app") is an on-screen privacy shade, provided by DDJ A1 ("we", "us"). Peekless is deliberately designed as a local-only app: it has no account system, no login, no server, and no cloud storage operated by us. It never reads, captures or transmits what is on your screen.

What Peekless is

Peekless draws a cover on top of your screen so that someone glancing over your shoulder cannot read it. In its default Spotlight mode it opens a small window on the part you are reading, so you can keep using your phone with the shade on. It is not a polarizing privacy film, and it is not the hardware privacy display built into some newer phones — it is a cover the app draws.

Every feature is part of the free app; there is no subscription, no paid tier and no in-app purchase.

What Peekless does not do

The app does not read, record, capture or screenshot the contents of your screen. It only draws on top. It has no accessibility service, no screen-capture permission, and no camera access. It cannot tell what app you are using or what text is displayed.

Data stored on your device

Your settings — the selected mode, cover opacity, window size and shape, pattern strength, tilt angle and whether the floating handle is shown — are stored only on your device in the app's private storage. We never receive them, and we cannot see them.

The app has no sign-up, account or login. Uninstalling the app deletes all of it. Android's standard app backup may include these settings in your own Google account backup if you have device backup enabled; that backup is controlled by you and Google, not by us.

Sharing

At your explicit request, Peekless can hand a short piece of text — a one-line recommendation and the store link — to the app you pick in Android's share sheet. Nothing is uploaded by us. Once that text leaves the app, it is under your control.

Permissions

Peekless asks for the following permissions:

• Display over other apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW) — the core function. This is what lets the app draw the shade and the floating handle on top of whatever you are looking at. It grants no ability to read the screen underneath. Without it the app cannot do its one job, so the app explains this before asking and takes you to the system setting.
• Notifications — used for the ongoing notification that shows whether the shade is on and gives you a Stop button, and for the optional reminder described below. If you decline, every feature of the app still works; you can always turn the shade off from the floating handle or the home screen widget.

The app also declares the following install-time permissions:

• Foreground service (special use) — so the shade you turned on keeps running until you turn it off, instead of being killed in the background.
• Run at startup — so your optional reminders are re-registered after you restart your phone.
• Vibration — for the optional vibration on reminders.
• Internet / network state — used only by the advertising SDK described below.

Peekless does not request camera, phone, contacts, location, microphone, SMS, calendar, notification-listener, body-sensor, activity-recognition, storage, screen-capture or accessibility-service permissions.

The app reads the device's accelerometer only while the optional Panic cover mode is selected, and only to tell how far the phone is tilted. That reading stays on the device and is never stored or transmitted.

Information collected automatically

When you use the app, certain information may be collected automatically by third-party SDKs used for advertising. This may include:

• Your device's Internet Protocol (IP) address
• Your device's advertising identifier (Advertising ID)
• App usage events such as session time and screens viewed
• The mobile operating system and device model you use

This information is processed by the advertising provider described below. Nothing about your screen contents or your shade settings is included in it.

Advertising

The app displays advertisements provided by Google AdMob. To serve ads, AdMob and its partners may access your device's Advertising ID and the information described above; this data is shared with Google as a third party for advertising and marketing purposes. For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, and other regions where required, the app presents a consent form via Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) before personalized advertising data is used; if you decline, non-personalized ads are shown instead. You can reset or limit ad personalization at any time in your device settings (Settings → Google → Ads), and you can change your consent choice from the app's Settings screen ("Ad privacy settings").

Ads stay out of the way: there is no ad anywhere in the setup flow before the shade works, the shade settings screen carries no banner at all, the exit dialog carries no ad, and the home screen widget shows no ad at any point. The shade itself is lowered while Peekless is in the foreground, so it never covers an ad.

Notifications and reminders

The shade's ongoing notification is created locally on your device. The optional reminder is scheduled locally as well. No push notification service is used, and we send you nothing from a server. Reminders can be turned off at any time in the app's Settings, and quiet hours are on by default.

Children

The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app displays ads configured through Google AdMob in accordance with Google's policies.

Your rights

Because your data exists only on your device, you are in direct control of it: changing a setting overwrites it, and uninstalling the app removes everything. Depending on your region (e.g. GDPR in the EEA/UK, CCPA in California), you may also have rights regarding data processed by advertising SDKs; you can exercise ad-related choices through the consent form and your device's ad settings described above.

Because we hold no data about you, we cannot delete data on your behalf — there is nothing on our side to delete.

Security

Your settings never leave your device, and the app never has access to the screen contents it covers, which removes the most common exposure paths. We recommend protecting your device with a screen lock.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
