TapZero Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-09-03
TapZero ("the app") is a tap-timing trainer and countdown timer provided by DDJ A1 ("we", "us"). It lets you measure and train your reaction time, practise drills that mirror ticket sales and course registration, run a countdown to an exact second, and keep a list of the events you are getting ready for. TapZero is deliberately designed as a local-only app: it has no account system, no login, no server, and no cloud storage operated by us.
The app does not connect to the internet to do its job
TapZero does not fetch the time from any server. It reads your device clock and applies an offset that you set yourself, by tapping a button in time with an accurate clock you have open elsewhere. Nothing about that calibration leaves your device. The only network traffic the app produces comes from the advertising components described below.
Data stored on your device
Everything the app records — your drill results (reaction times, timing errors, captcha entry times), your grade and history, the events you add, your calibration offset, and your app preferences — is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to us. There is no sign-up, account, or login. Drill history is automatically pruned after 90 days. Deleting the app deletes all of this data from your device. Android's standard app backup may include this data in your own Google account backup if you have device backup enabled; that backup is controlled by you and Google, not by us.
If you use the Share features, the shared text or image is delivered only to the destination you explicitly choose (for example a messaging app), and its safekeeping is under your control.
Permissions the app asks for and why
- Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS, optional). For the daily reminders and event alerts you can turn on or off in Settings. All of them are scheduled and shown locally.
- Alarms and reminders (SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM). Used to deliver event alerts close to the minute you asked for. If the permission is not available, the app falls back to inexact alarms rather than dropping the reminder.
- Run at startup (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED). Android discards scheduled alarms when the device restarts or the clock or time zone changes. The app listens for these events only to re-register your own reminders.
- Vibration (VIBRATE). For the countdown and drill signals.
- Keep the screen on (WAKE_LOCK). So the screen does not switch off while a countdown is running.
- Internet access (INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE) and the advertising identifier (AD_ID). Used only by the advertising components described below. No feature of the app itself sends or receives data over the network.
The app does not request access to your location, contacts, camera, microphone, files, or the content of other apps.
Information collected automatically
When you use the app, certain information may be collected automatically by third-party SDKs used for advertising. This may include:
- Your device's Internet Protocol (IP) address
- Your device's advertising identifier (Advertising ID)
- App usage events such as session time and screens viewed
- The mobile operating system and device model you use
This information is processed by the advertising provider described below and is not linked by us to your drill results, events, or calibration, which never leave your device.
Advertising
The app displays advertisements provided by Google AdMob. Ads are never shown while a drill is running, on the captcha entry screen, during the final seconds of a countdown, or in the popup (picture-in-picture) timer — the moments where an accidental tap would cost you the thing you are training for. To serve ads, AdMob and its partners may access your device's Advertising ID and the information described above. For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, and other regions where required, the app presents a consent form via Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) before personalized advertising data is used; if you decline, non-personalized ads are shown instead. You can reset or limit ad personalization at any time in your device settings (Settings → Google → Ads), and you can change your consent choice from the app's Settings screen ("Ad personalisation").
For more information on how Google uses data when you use partners' apps, see https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Notifications
Daily reminders and event alerts are scheduled and shown locally on your device. No push notification service is used, and notification content is not sent to any server.
Accuracy
TapZero is a practice and reference tool. It shows your device clock adjusted by an offset you set yourself, and it cannot know the clock of any ticketing or registration server. It does not guarantee any outcome, and it neither connects to nor automates any booking site.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app displays ads configured through Google AdMob in accordance with Google's policies.
Your rights
Because your records exist only on your device, you are in direct control of them: you can view, edit, or delete them in the app at any time, and uninstalling the app removes them completely. Depending on your region (e.g. GDPR in the EEA/UK, CCPA in California), you may also have rights regarding data processed by advertising SDKs; you can exercise ad-related choices through the consent form and your device's ad settings described above.
Security
Your records never leave your device, which removes the most common exposure paths (server breaches, account leaks). We recommend protecting your device with a screen lock.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
