How to make a class timetable when classes start at different times each day
Short answer: write down each class once with every day it meets and the start and end time for each of those days, then put them in a weekly grid where every class is a block sized by its length. Do not force every day into the same time rows.
1. Collect your classes, not your time slots
Start from your course list or school schedule. For each class write the name, room, teacher and the days it meets. Do this once per class, even if it meets three times a week.
2. Note the time for each day
Many classes are at 9:00 on Monday but 10:00 on Thursday. Write the start and end time next to each day. Long labs get one long block, for example 13:00–15:50.
3. Pick only the days you need
If you have no Saturday classes, leave Saturday out. Fewer columns make each block wider and easier to read on a phone.
4. Give each subject one color
One color per subject is enough. Use soft colors so the class names stay readable, and keep strong colors for what needs attention, like a deadline.
5. Add reminders before class
Ten minutes before is a good default for walking between buildings. If your phone delays reminders, see why class reminders arrive late on Android.
6. Keep deadlines next to the timetable
Homework is due "at the next class" more often than on a calendar date. Link each assignment to its class so the due time follows the timetable.
Doing it in Bellgrid
In Bellgrid you add a class once, tap the days it meets and turn on "Different time on each day" to set each day's time. The weekly grid draws each class as a block, puts overlapping classes side by side and highlights today. Each class can remind you 5 to 30 minutes before it starts, and a homework task can be due at the class's next meeting with one tap.
FAQ
Why does my timetable app force the same time for every day?
Many timetable makers are spreadsheets: one row is one time slot for the whole week. A block-based timetable lets each day have its own start and end time.
How should I enter a three-hour lab?
Add it as one class with one long block (for example 9:00–11:50) instead of three separate one-hour classes, so the reminder fires once.
What if two classes overlap?
A block timetable can show them side by side in the same day. Check with your school which one you actually need to attend.
