How to move your cash book records to a new phone
Short answer: before you change phones, make a backup file of your cash book in the app, save it somewhere the new phone can reach (a cloud drive you already use, email to yourself, or a computer), install the same app on the new phone, restore from that file, and check that every book's balance matches.
Why records get lost
Most cash book apps store entries only on the phone. If you switch phones without a backup, the records stay on the old one, or vanish when it is reset. Reviews of cash book apps are full of this: "i transfer my data one phone to another phone so my important data lost".
1. Make a backup file before you switch
Do it while the old phone still works. Write down the current balance of each book so you can check it later.
2. Keep the file somewhere the new phone can reach
A cloud drive, an email to yourself, or a copy on a computer all work. One copy on the old phone alone is not a backup.
3. Restore on the new phone
Install the same app, open its restore option and pick the backup file.
4. Check the balances
Compare each book's balance with the numbers you wrote down. If they match, the move is done. Keep the backup file until you are sure.
5. Back up regularly, not only when you switch
Phones get lost or break without warning. A monthly backup after you close the month means you never lose more than a few weeks.
Doing this with Cashleaf
In Cashleaf you make a backup file whenever you want and keep it where you choose. On a new phone, restore from that one file. There is no Google sign-in, no account and no cloud of ours: your cash books stay on your phone and in your backup file. Deleted entries also wait 30 days in the trash, and an optional app lock uses your phone's screen lock or fingerprint.
FAQ
Will my cash book move automatically when I change phones?
Do not count on it. Many apps store records only on the phone, and some reviewers lost years of entries when they switched. Make a backup file before you change phones.
Do I need a Google account to back up?
Not with a file backup. You make the backup file yourself and keep it wherever you choose, so no sign-in is needed.
How often should I make a backup?
Before changing or resetting a phone, and regularly, for example once a month after you close the month.
