How to write a letter to your future self

Short answer: write a few honest lines about today, one question for later, and pick when it should open — a date or a place. Short letters get written; long ones get postponed.

What to write

  • What you are worried about right now.
  • What you hope will have changed.
  • One small thing you want to remember (a smell, a song, a sentence someone said).
  • A question: "Did you…?"

When should it open?

A date works for birthdays and new year. A place works for moments tied to somewhere: the first day at a new job, a trip, a park you walk in often. Reading it where you wrote it hits differently.

Making it with Herelet

Tap "Leave a letter here", write, and choose "When I come back" or "On a date". Add photos from that day. The letter stays sealed until then.

FAQ

How long should the letter be?

A few lines is enough. You can always write another one.

How far in the future should it open?

Six months to a year feels meaningful without being forgotten.

Can I open it early?

In Herelet, a sealed letter opens on its date or place; you can delete it but not peek.
