How to hand over the baby log at shift change
Short answer: at every handover, pass on four facts: when the last feed was and on which side, the last diaper, whether the baby is asleep and since when, and today's totals. Send them as one short text so nobody has to wake the other up to ask.
Why syncing isn't always the answer
Shared logs that sync between two phones are great when they work. When they lag or drop, you end up with two versions of the night and a text at 4 a.m. asking "did you feed her?". A handover message is simple, works across any phones, and leaves no doubt about what the other person knows.
The four-line handover
- Last feed: time, how long ago, side or amount.
- Last diaper: time and type.
- Sleep: asleep since when, or awake.
- Today so far: number of feeds, diapers, hours of sleep.
Sending it in one tap

Keep one phone as the log
If you share one tablet or phone for night duty, keep logging on that device and send the summary at the switch. Back up the log to a file now and then so nothing is lost if the phone is.
