Car expense tracker without an account: moving your log to a new phone
Short answer: You do not need an account or a paid sync plan to keep years of fuel and service records. Make a backup file on the old phone, copy it to the new phone (cloud drive, email, USB or messenger), and restore it in the app. It takes about a minute.
Why accounts are not required
A car log is a small amount of data: a few hundred rows of dates, odometer readings and costs. It fits in one file. An account is only needed if a service stores your data on its servers; a local app keeps it on your phone, and a backup file gives you the same safety for a phone change.
Step by step in Odonote
- Old phone: Settings → Backup → create a backup file.
- Save or send the file somewhere you can reach from the new phone.
- New phone: install Odonote, open Settings → Restore and pick the file.

Keep a copy in a spreadsheet
Export CSV to open your records in Excel or Google Sheets, useful for taxes, reimbursement or selling the car with a service history.
Habits that prevent data loss
- Make a backup every month or after big services.
- Keep the file somewhere other than the phone itself.
- Before a factory reset or trade-in, restore the backup on the new phone first and check it.
