Why earbud and car buttons don't control your music player
Short answer: Android sends headset, car and lock screen buttons to the app that holds the active "media session". If your music player does not publish one correctly, the buttons go nowhere, and the lock screen may show "Unknown" instead of the song title.
Quick checks
- Start a song, then pull down the notification shade. A proper player shows a media card with title, artist and controls.
- Lock the phone. The same card should be on the lock screen.
- Press play/pause on your earbuds. If the card reacts, the session works.
If it still doesn't work
- Close other music or video apps. The last app that played audio often keeps the buttons.
- Disconnect and reconnect Bluetooth.
- For Android Auto, check that the player supports it; not all local players do.
Music keeps playing after earbuds disconnect?
A good player pauses automatically when audio "becomes noisy", which is Android's signal that headphones were unplugged.
In SunTape
SunTape uses Android's standard media session, shows the correct title on the lock screen and notification, responds to earbud and car buttons, and pauses when your earbuds disconnect.
