Tripline Privacy Policy

Tripline ("the app") turns the location information saved inside your own photos into an animated map video, provided by DDJ A1 ("we", "us"). The app reads the photos on your device, keeps only the ones that carry a location tag and were taken with the camera models you select, draws your route on a map, and renders an MP4 file on your device. Tripline is designed as a local-only app: it has no account system, no login, no server operated by us, and it never uploads your photos or your route.

Data stored on your device

• Photo metadata — for each photo that carries a location tag, the app stores the photo's identifier, capture time, latitude/longitude, and camera model in a private app file. The image content itself is never copied, decoded for display, or transmitted.
• Derived route data — the route, distance, places, an automatically estimated "home" area, and detected trips are computed from that metadata on your device.
• Videos and thumbnails — finished videos are saved to your device's Movies/Tripline folder; a small thumbnail and a list of your videos are kept in private app storage.
• Settings — video defaults, selected cameras, theme, notification preferences.

None of this is transmitted to us. Deleting the app removes the private app data; videos you saved to Movies/Tripline remain until you delete them.

Map tiles (the only network use besides advertising)

To draw the map behind your route, the app downloads basemap images ("tiles") from CARTO (basemap data © OpenStreetMap contributors, © CARTO). A tile request contains the map coordinates of the area being drawn and ordinary network information such as your IP address. This can reveal to the tile provider which map areas you looked at, but your photos, timestamps, and route are never sent. Tiles are cached on your device for up to 30 days to reduce repeated downloads. The app explains this before the first map is loaded. See CARTO's privacy policy at https://carto.com/privacy.

App configuration file

On start, at most once a day, the app downloads a small configuration file (a few hundred bytes) from our website (ddj-angie1.vercel.app). It contains only the map tile server address and display limits, so we can switch map providers without an app update. The request carries ordinary network information (IP address, app version) and nothing about you or your photos.

Information collected automatically

Third-party advertising SDKs used by the app may automatically collect:

• Your device's Internet Protocol (IP) address
• Your device's advertising identifier (Advertising ID)
• App usage events such as session time and screens viewed
• The mobile operating system and device model you use

This information is processed by the advertising provider described below and is not linked by us to your photos or routes, which never leave your device.

Advertising

The app displays advertisements provided by Google AdMob, including banner, interstitial, and native ads. To serve ads, AdMob and its partners may access your device's Advertising ID and the information described above. For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, and other regions where required, the app presents a consent form via Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) before personalized advertising data is used; if you decline, non-personalized ads are shown instead. You can reset or limit ad personalization at any time in your device settings (Settings → Google → Ads), and you can change your consent choice from the app's settings ("Ad privacy options").

Notifications

Progress and completion notifications while a video is being created, and optional recap reminders (monthly recap, when a trip ends, weekly summary), are scheduled and shown locally on your device. No push notification service is used, and notification content is not sent to any server.

Permissions

• Photos and videos (READ_MEDIA_IMAGES) — to read the capture time, location, and camera model of your photos. Required for the app to work.
• Media location (ACCESS_MEDIA_LOCATION) — Android strips location tags from photos unless this permission is granted; the app needs it to read where a photo was taken.
• Notifications — for video progress and the optional reminders above.
• Foreground service — to keep rendering a video while the screen is off or the app is in the background.
• Run at startup — to re-register local reminders after your device restarts.
• Internet — used only to download map tiles and by the advertising SDK.

Children

The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app displays ads configured through Google AdMob in accordance with Google's policies.

Your rights

Because your data exists only on your device, you are in direct control of it: you can rescan, change which cameras are included, delete videos, or uninstall the app at any time. Depending on your region (e.g. GDPR in the EEA/UK, CCPA in California), you may also have rights regarding data processed by advertising SDKs; you can exercise ad-related choices through the consent form and your device's ad settings described above.

Security

Your photos and routes never leave your device, which removes the most common exposure paths (server breaches, account leaks). Videos you share are delivered only to the destination you explicitly choose. We recommend protecting your device with a screen lock.

Tripline's map rendering and video engine is adapted from the MIT-licensed Timeline Visualizer project. Notices are listed at https://ddj-angie1.vercel.app/tripline/licenses.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
