How to keep your alarm loud while the ringer is silent
Short answer: Android has a separate alarm volume. Put the ringer on silent or vibrate, keep notifications low, and leave the alarm volume high. Schedule it for bedtime so you never have to remember.
1. Android has five volumes, not one
Media, ring, notifications, alarm and call each have their own level. Silencing the ringer does not touch the alarm, but turning the alarm slider to zero does.
2. Set a night combination
- Ring: vibrate or silent.
- Notifications: 0.
- Media: low.
- Alarm: high.
3. Check the alarm level, not just the ringer
If your alarm was quiet, the alarm slider was probably lowered at some point. Raise it once and keep it in your night setup.
4. Automate bedtime and morning
A schedule like "11:00 PM every night → Sleep" and "7:00 AM weekdays → Work" puts the right combination in place without thinking about it.
Doing it with Volmode
Volmode's Sleep mode keeps notifications quiet while your alarm still rings. Each mode sets all five volumes together, "Try it now" lets you hear the levels before saving, and the scheduler switches modes at the times you choose.
FAQ
Will my alarm ring if my phone is on silent?
On most Android phones, yes. Alarms use their own volume, so silencing the ringer does not mute the alarm unless the alarm volume itself is at zero.
I'm hard of hearing. How do I never miss calls?
Keep Ring and Alarm high in every mode you use, and lower only media and notifications.
Can I do this automatically every night?
Yes. Schedule a Sleep mode at bedtime and a Home or Work mode in the morning.
