How to stop turning off your alarm and going back to sleep
Short answer: You fall back asleep because dismissing the alarm takes one tap, which you can do in sleep inertia without really waking. Make stopping the alarm require real effort, then check again a few minutes later.
Six fixes that work
- Limit snooze. Allow one or two snoozes at most, or none.
- Move the phone. Across the room means you have to stand up.
- Use a mission to dismiss. Solving math or walking steps wakes your brain before the alarm stops.
- Add a re-sleep check. A second prompt a few minutes later catches you if you lie back down.
- Remove the escape hatch. If you know you will cheat, turn off any emergency dismiss.
- Plan the first two minutes. Light on, water, sit up. Track your streak to keep it going.
How Wakedrill stops the snooze loop
Wakedrill makes you finish a mission to dismiss, then asks a few minutes later whether you are up and rings again if you don't answer. You can cap snoozes, turn off the emergency exit and follow your streak in the wake-up log.
